I am a 20 year old full time nursing student with very little free time but when I do have a minute to chill out, I enjoy reading a great book or riding roller coasters with my friends.
The Weight Gain:
I broke my knee when I was 14 and I was on crutches for close to 9 months. During that time I put on almost 100 pounds. When I healed, I lost about half of the weight, but then I threw out my knee again and was back on crutches. I gained all the weight back again (plus some) and I followed this routine until eventually I reached 332 pounds.
The Moment of Change:
When I finally got it through my head that if I didn't lose the weight, I was going to keep getting bigger until I died!
A New Life:
It is much easier to get around and I don't have to worry if I am going to be able to fit on a ride at a theme park.
I got my life back!
I try to hit the gym 3-5 times a week. I do cardio on the elliptical for 30 minutes to an hour, and then I lift weights. Sometimes I do a class - yoga, strength training, zumba; anything to mix it up and keep moving.
I can eat most of the same foods that I ate before the lap band, I just eat smaller portions.
My Favorite Recipe:
I'm starting to enjoy cooking for the family on weekends. My favorite recipe so far is a french onion soup from the cookbook "Cook Yourself Thin." The soup has less than half of the calories of my former favorite soup from Mimi's Cafe. Their soup had close to 1,000 calories a bowl!
