Top 5 Foods To Help Blast Varicose Veins

Written By: Christine Williamson

Nutrition plays a key role in the health and beauty of your legs.

If you suffer from Varicose Veins (enlarged veins on the surface of the skin) you are not alone. Varicose Veins affect up to 60% of people, most of which are women. Thankfully, a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables may help prevent and get rid of this unsightly disorder.

Here are five foods to help:

1) Buckwheat

Buckwheat contains a ton of Rutin. Rutin is part of the large family of flavonoids, a plant pigment that can reduce the fragility and permeability of capillaries, therefore reducing your risk of developing new varicose veins. Rutin has many vasoprotective (protective of blood vessels) and antithrombotic (protection against blood clots) properties.

2) Berries

Berries such as blackberries and blueberries are also packed with Rutin, along with a plethora of naturally occurring antioxidants that help contribute to maintaining glowing skin.

3) Avocados

Avocados are loaded with fiber and contain vitamin C and vitamin E, two key vitamins for vascular health. You can maintain clean arteries and lower cholesterol levels by eating avocados twice a day, while also avoiding red meat and cow’s milk. Toss avocado onto your next salad with plenty of fresh veggies for a filling and heart healthy meal. Avocado oil can also be used as a healthy sub for butter in baking, drizzled on popcorn or spread on toast.

4) Apples

Apples are extremely rich in important antioxidants, flavanoids, and dietary fiber. Be sure to eat your apples with the peel on, as most of the flavonoids are in the peel, and try to stick with organic apples to avoid pesticides.

5) Asparagus

Asparagus is packed with fiber, folate, vitamins A, C, E and K, as well as chromium. Eating asparagus helps strengthen veins and capillaries and prevents them from rupturing.

Additionally, refrain from Alcohol; regular alcohol consumption increases the risk of varicose veins. Avoid drinking more than one drink a day, especially if you are a woman.
