Aspirin
Herbal Medicines (especially Gingko Biloba)
Dabigatran (Pradaxa)
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, Motrin, Aleve, Advil, Naprosyn, etc.)
Vitamin E
Clopidrogel (Plavix)
Apixaban (Eliquis)
Enoxaparin (Lovenox)
Fish oil
Prasugrel (Effiant)
Rivaroxaban (Xarelto)
Warfarin (Coumadin)
One Week Before Surgery
Inform your surgeon of any medications, supplements, or herbal remedies you are taking.
Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain supplements unless instructed otherwise.
Arrange for transportation to and from the surgery center or hospital.
If you smoke, try to quit or reduce smoking as it can affect healing.
Maintain a healthy diet and stay hydrated to support your recovery.
One Day Before Surgery
Follow any specific dietary restrictions provided by your surgeon.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
Prepare a comfortable recovery space at home with necessary supplies within reach.
Shower and cleanse the surgical area as directed.
Pack any necessary medical documents and personal items for your hospital stay.
The Night Before Surgery
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight, unless instructed otherwise.
Remove all jewelry, nail polish, and contact lenses.
Get a good night’s rest to help with recovery.
The Day of Surgery
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that does not put pressure on your abdomen.
Bring a list of current medications, identification, and insurance information.
Do not wear makeup, lotions, or fragrances.
Arrive at the designated time to allow for check-in procedures.
After Hernia Surgery
Follow all post-operative care instructions given by your healthcare provider.
Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities as directed by your surgeon.
Arrange for someone to stay with you for at least 24 hours if required.
Manage pain with prescribed medications and follow dietary recommendations.
Contact your surgeon if you experience unusual pain, swelling, fever, or other concerns.
