What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes redness and bumps on the face, often referred to as “adult acne.” Rosacea is very common in women, often detected during menopause. It can develop on the cheeks, on the chin, nose, and forehead.
What are the Symptoms?
Patients with rosacea will experience pimples and redness of the skin. In some cases, it can cause itching, swelling, and scratchy eyes.
What Causes Rosacea?
There are a number of alleged triggers to Rosacea. Though no initial cause is identifiable, it is said that rosacea is most often seen in patients with lighter skin color, but is not rare to all skin types. Triggers for rosacea include sunlight, caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods, hot liquids, and extreme temperatures. Excessive exercise, stress, dramatic climate changes and anxiety have also been said to cause rosacea to grow.
What are the Treatments?
Like anything else, treatment for rosacea is dependent on each individual person and case. Though it is something that will appear and reappear, there is no actual treatment. Most medications will provide temporarily relief but it is inevitable that rosacea will disappear and appear as it pleases. Many times, people will use makeup to cover up embarrassing marks or discoloration. In other cases, a number of different creams and ointment can help reduce the appearance of imperfections. Doctors might even suggest antibiotics for more severe cases. It’s best to consult a doctor for advice on what might be the greatest treatment for your rosacea.
