Recovery Timeline
First Few Days:
Rest, manage pain, and limit movement.
1-2 Weeks:
Light activities can resume, but avoid heavy lifting.
4-6 Weeks:
Most people fully recover and return to normal activities.
Several Months:
Minor swelling or tightness may persist as the body fully heals
Managing Pain & Discomfort
Take prescribed or over-the-counter pain medications as directed.
Apply an ice pack (wrapped in a cloth) to reduce swelling.
Use a small pillow for support when coughing or sneezing.
Activity & Movement
Walking is encouraged to prevent stiffness and blood clots.
Avoid lifting heavy objects (over 10 lbs) for at least 4-6 weeks.
Gradually return to normal activities based on your comfort level.
Wound Care & Hygiene
Keep the incision clean and dry to prevent infection.
Avoid baths, swimming, or soaking until cleared by your doctor.
Watch for signs of infection: redness, swelling, pus, or a foul odor.
Diet & Bowel Care
Eat a high-fiber diet to prevent constipation and avoid straining.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Take a stool softener if needed.
When to Call Your Doctor
Severe pain or swelling that worsens.
Signs of infection (fever, redness, pus, or warmth).
Nausea, vomiting, or difficulty urinating.
A new bulge or lump near the surgical site.
