Watch: The first Obalon balloon placement
The start of a new era: This week West Medical’s Dr. Hooman, along with assisting nurse Kelly Havel, placed the first commercially available Obalon balloon in the country. The procedure took less than 10 minutes and our patient drove back to work the same day. There is no need for anesthesia or sedation during this procedure.
The balloon, which is the size of a large pill, is swallowed and then inflated with air once it is in the stomach.
Once the balloon is filled with air, the tubing is removed and the patient can go about their day. Obalon is the FIRST and ONLY swallowable, FDA-approved 3-balloon system for weight loss. This video demonstrates the first balloon being placed. Over the next two and four weeks, the other two balloons will be placed in the patient’s stomach, resulting in proven weight loss with no downtime over a treatment period of 6 months.
