There are several types of vein conditions, all of which can cause discomfort, are no fun to look at, and disrupt your day-to-day life. At West Medical, our specialized treatment offering help patients with common vein issues, such as varicose veins, spider veins, and reticular veins.
If you’re unsure what type of vein condition you have, the following general information can give you a better understanding. However, we recommend that all concerned individuals schedule a consultation with us so that we can diagnose specific conditions.
What Types of Vein Conditions Exist?
- Varicose Veins. These are enlarged veins on the skin’s surface that can influence the flow of blood through the trunks and branches in the surrounding tissue. They can be caused by different factors including heredity, age, gender, pregnancy, and more. While varicose veins tend to affect women more than men, venous disorders can develop in all genders.
- Spider Veins. Spider veins can appear in several shades, usually ranging between blue, purple, and red. The thin lines often resemble spider webs, which is where the condition gets its name. While many cases of spider veins don’t involve any discomfort, patients still seek out spider vein treatment in order to achieve an unblemished appearance on their legs once again.
- Reticular Veins. Reticular veins are typically found on the outer thighs, behind the knees, and even on the face. They’re usually blue or green in color and lay flat compared to varicose veins. Measuring one to three millimeters long, reticular veins can develop into spider veins if left untreated.
