Dr. George P. Teitelbaum

George P. Teitelbaum, MD, FSIR, is a nationally recognized interventional radiologist and neurointerventional surgeon at West Medical with more than 30 years of experience performing advanced image-guided and endovascular procedures.

At West Medical, Dr. Teitelbaum focuses on minimally invasive, catheter-based treatments. His extensive background in neurointerventional surgery gives him particular expertise in navigating extremely small and complex blood vessels using microcatheters, guidewires, advanced angiographic imaging, and selective and superselective embolization techniques. Rather than relying on large incisions or open surgery, his procedures are performed through a vascular access site only a few millimeters in size and are designed, when medically appropriate, to allow patients to return home the same day.

Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE). Dr. Teitelbaum performs Genicular Artery Embolization for appropriately selected patients with chronic knee pain associated with osteoarthritis. Using angiography and microcatheter techniques, he identifies abnormal blood flow associated with inflammation around the knee and selectively embolizes the targeted genicular artery branches. GAE offers a minimally invasive option for patients who continue to have knee pain despite conservative treatment and who wish to avoid or delay more invasive orthopedic surgery.

Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE). Dr. Teitelbaum performs Uterine Artery Embolization, also called uterine fibroid embolization, for women with symptomatic uterine fibroids. By selectively catheterizing the uterine arteries, he reduces blood flow to the fibroids while preserving the uterus. UAE can improve heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pressure, abdominal fullness, urinary frequency, and other fibroid symptoms, and it is an important alternative to hysterectomy and myomectomy for appropriately selected women.

Before joining West Medical, Dr. Teitelbaum served as Medical Director of the Providence Neurovascular Center. Earlier in his career, he spent approximately 15 years at the USC Keck School of Medicine as Professor of Neurological Surgery and Director of Interventional Neuroradiology. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, holds multiple issued U.S. patents, and has co-founded medical device companies that were later acquired by major medical technology organizations.

Every patient is individually evaluated. Dr. Teitelbaum reviews each patient’s symptoms, medical history, previous treatments, and imaging to develop an individualized treatment plan and to determine whether a minimally invasive outpatient procedure is the right choice.
