First, what are varicose veins?
Varicose veins can take on several forms and range in severity. Oftentimes, the vein in question may be highly visible with a blue hue potentially accompanied by a bulging appearance. For most patients, the condition is not painful, but some patients may experience discomfort, mild or minor pain, and itching.
The exact cause of varicose veins is not completely understood, but its occurrence is more common among women. Obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and/or poor circulation, as well as genetics, may all play a role in the development of varicose veins.
Endovenous Laser Treatment
Of all the treatments for varicose veins, laser vein removal may be the most popular. As a minimally invasive procedure, only a small incision is made near the site of the vein in question. Through the incision, a fiber optic wire is inserted and once activated, generates enough heat to permanently destroy the vein. While the process may sound painful, local anesthesia is of course used and most patients feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. Some discomfort may be experienced after, however, most patients can quickly return to their normal lives.
